Everyone loves an adorable dog or fearless cat. Many video game developers make a point to highlight this common affectation when they create trophy lists for their games. In fact, many players will often joke about how a game is clearly “Game of the Year” material simply for allowing you to pet an animal.
Animal lovers will want to check out the games below to add some much needed color to their trophy lists. Read on for our recommendations for PlayStation trophies with animals that deserve all your love.

12. In Sound Mind
In Sound Mind is a psychological horror game from 2021 that puts you in the shoes of a therapist as he literally grapples with the physical manifestations of mental illness in his patients. Despite being well-equipped to handle such crises in others, you soon find that you, too, are not immune to inner demons. Your only companion on this harrowing adventure is Tonia, your pet cat that—for whatever reason—now speaks its mind.
In the aptly named trophy, “GOTY 10/10,” you simply need to pet the cat in your office. She also has increasingly amusing dialogue if you continue to do so.
While having the ability to interact with Tonia is one reason you should check the game out, there is another compelling one. In Sound Mind boasts an OST from the popular music YouTuber The Living Tombstone. You can listen to the game’s soundtrack here. There is also a fun music video you get to experience once you complete the game!
11. Assassin’s Creed Origins
Assassin’s Creed Origins is a recent entry in the long-running series that spans iconic locations around the globe. This game sees you exploring the exciting deserts and temples of ancient Egypt while unearthing secrets about the origins of the Assassin’s Brotherhood.
The trophy “Roooaaarrrrr!”, in addition to being difficult to spell correctly, introduces a new mechanic to the series. To unlock it, you have to tame a lion! It’s easier than you think, too. Once you unlock the appropriate skill, all you need to do is use a sleeping dart on the unsuspecting feline. You’ll also want to keep your new friend around, as the trophy “Set-up Date” requires you to bring a tamed lion to a crocodile.
What could possibly go wrong?
10. Final Fantasy XVI
Final Fantasy XVI is a divisive entry in the renowned JRPG series. In this title, you play as Clive, a young man that sets out on a quest for revenge and power. The game received some criticism regarding performance and its lack of a true party system, which was contrasted with praise for its incredible set pieces.
Although the game only allows you to play as Clive, one very important cast member is his faithful canine companion, Torgal.
This fiercely loyal dog has had Clive’s best interests in mind ever since he was a puppy. You may be tempted to return the favor, and will be glad to know that the game rewards you for doing so! The trophy “You Can Pet the Dog” can be unlocked by petting Torgal 5 times. It is likely to be one of the very first trophies you unlock in the game.
9. Crystar
Crystar is an ARPG in which you delve into Purgatory to save your sister from an unseemly fate. You play as Rei, a teenager that is part of the “going-home-club.” Rei does not have many attachments, nor does she lack in painful experiences. For these reasons, she is all the more determined to rescue her dearest family member. You must overcome your life’s sorrows in order to succeed.
Thankfully, you are not alone; you meet three other Executors: girls that traverse Purgatory for their own purposes. Each individual has their own trials and tribulations that you learn about as you continue your journey.
Rei has one more companion on her side: Thelema. This incredibly fluffy white dog is your closest friend and unconditional ally through this trying time. Upon returning from Purgatory, you can pet her to ease your sorrows.
And, as a trophy hunter, you will certainly want to do so; the trophy “Dog Lover” is acquired by petting Thelema a staggering 53 times. You may wonder why the developers selected such a specific number for the trophy; the solution is simple: the average height of a Samoyed is apparently 53 centimeters!
8. Ghostwire: Tokyo
Ghostwire: Tokyo was an ambitious open-world action game from 2023 developed by the now (unfortunately) defunct studio, Tango Gameworks. The game entrusts you with dealing with spirits and other supernatural entities throughout Tokyo, Japan. Similar to Crystar, the protagonist of Ghostwire: Tokyo, Akito, is driven by his desire to protect his sister.
One of the fun additions to the game’s open-world has to be the inclusion of various furry critters. The base game includes many street dogs and stray cats that you can interact with and even read their thoughts. The trophy “Animal Lover” requires Akito to pet one of these precious creatures. There are also a plethora of hidden Tanuki in the overworld that you need to find for the trophy “Your Tail’s Showing.”
The DLC pack, Spider’s Thread, also tasks you with finding all of the cats within the new game mode. Help Akito relax by finding and petting all the animals!
7. Abzu
For those familiar with this short indie game, its inclusion on a list of PlayStation trophies with animals comes as no surprise. Abzu comes from the same art director as Journey and sees the player exploring the great depths of our world’s oceans. The game is cinematic and atmospheric, with plenty of trophies relating to the wildlife you encounter on your dive.
In particular, I’d like to highlight the trophy “Connection.” To obtain this bronze trophy, you need to catch a ride on a Great White Shark. This can only be accomplished at the end of the game in Chapter 8. After having encountered the beast many times during your adventure, it is incredibly cathartic to end with it on your side.
6. Omori
Omori is a stylish pixelated RPG that serves as a coming-of-age story for a young boy named Sunny. The game is divided cleanly in two sides: the real world, and your safe place in White Space. Trophy hunters will become intimately familiar with both since they are necessary for the platinum.
One trophy that takes place in the real world is “Tummy Full of Fish.” To accomplish this task, you must feed a stray cat twice a day for all three in-game days. The cat shows its appreciation by giving you items in return, some of which are required for additional trophies.
The orange cat isn’t the only feline in the game, either; you will also meet Mewo in White Space. Explore reality and White Space to befriend all the creatures while getting the platinum trophy!
5. Tales of Symphonia
Tales of Symphonia is a popular fan-favorite entry in the JRPG “Tales Of” series. The game is a twist on the classic chosen hero trope where the cast goes on an adventure to save the world. In this case, Colette is tasked with completing the Journey of Regeneration in order to save the world from decline. She is accompanied by childhood friends and makes new allies in the process.
Colette is clumsy, overly trusting, and absolutely loves dogs. The trophy “My Dear Colette” is unlocked when you acquire all of her titles by performing specific actions in-game. Of note is the title “Dog Lover.” You must interact with every single dog in the game with Colette as the on-screen character to affectionately name them. Examples of the dogs’ newfound names include Bunz, Teddy, and Sammy. You can see all of the precious pooches here.
Successfully doing so gets you one step closer to this trophy and gives you a healthy dose of warm and fuzzy feelings. Even more fun, these dogs maintain their names in the game’s sequel, Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World.
Be warned, however, that getting the platinum trophy for Tales of Symphonia requires at least 4 playthroughs.
4. Night in the Woods
Night in the Woods is a side-scrolling adventure game with platforming elements and mini-games that dabble in other genres, like rhythm and arcade games. If you’ve seen any gameplay or trailers, it probably doesn’t surprise you to see this game on a list for trophies with animals; after all, every character is fashioned after a different animal. The main character, Mae, looks like a cat; one of her friends, Greg, a fox.
However, the trophy in question has nothing to do with the game’s anthropomorphic cast. The trophy “Miracle Rats” involves feeding a group of rats in an abandoned building. Doing so once will make you the “Mother of Vermin,” and continuing for a total of three times will bolster their numbers and give you another trophy to boot.
Fair trade, right?
3. OneShot
Like Night in the Woods, OneShot sees you controlling an anthropomorphic cat creature named Niko. To be more precise, you serve as a “God” that directs him on a journey to return light to the world.
Along the way, you meet plenty of NPCs that need your help. One such person is the Shepherd whom needs help with his flock. The trophy “Ram Whisperer” is unlocked upon successful completion of a ram herding mini-game. You have to move 5 wooly creatures into the designated spaces without resetting in order to get the trophy.
2. Oxenfree II: Lost Signals
Oxenfree II is a horror adventure game that sees you returning to Edwards Island. Like the first game, you are inundated with encounters with the supernatural and must make smart choices in order to escape with your friends safely.
As Riley, you are directed to check on the radio towers on Edwards Island. You are joined by your new coworker, Jacob, whom lives on the island with his pet dog, Athena. He is a goofy guy that above all else, enjoys fun and carefree living. There are two trophies at odds: “Who Could Resist?” and “Master of Your Domain.”
The former requires Riley to pet Athena while the latter requires abstaining. What will you do in your first playthrough?
1. Okami HD
One of the older titles on this list, Okami sees the player controlling Amaterasu, the sun goddess in Shinto mythology. Amaterasu takes the form of a white wolf in this title and is on a journey to defeat Orochi and bring prosperity back to the world.
The game is well-known for its breathtaking art style and unique gameplay mechanics involving using brush strokes to invoke different powers. The trophy “All Creatures Great and Small” is unlocked by feeding all the different types of animals in Nippon at least once. There are 20 different critters to find, including raccoons, cranes, boars, and monkeys.
Successful completion of all the game’s trophies will unlock the platinum trophy, “Top Dog.” It would make an excellent addition to an animal lover’s platinum trophy mosaic!
