It’s Naughty Time! This lovably horrific teddy bear slasher game made its debut in 2010 across all modern home consoles. The game boasted a unique blend of horror and comedy, harkening back to the days of zany cartoon antics the likes of which the Looney Tunes were best known for. Being crushed by a conveniently-placed anvil, extreme wind-ups for sucker punches, and gravity being optional so long as you don’t acknowledge you’ve left the ground; Naughty Bear attempts its own version of cartoon tropes just like these.
Naughty Bear’s seemingly simple set-up should not be underestimated. The game requires a high level of understanding of its mechanics and their execution for players to earn high score trophies, multiplayer trophies, and more.
In this article, I describe my own experience earning all the trophies in the PlayStation 3 version of Naughty Bear. I also provide many tips and tricks to help make your trophy hunting journey in this game as simple as possible should you choose to tackle it yourself. Can you bear to be naughty enough to unlock all the achievements in Naughty Bear?

Why Naughty Bear?
“When the bears threw a party, Naughty Bear wasn’t invited. Scorned for the last time Naughty Bear is exacting his revenge… now they will pay… with their lives…
Scare the stuffing out of your victims as Naughty Bear, a lovable misunderstood bear, exacts his revenge on the ill-fated bears of perfection island. Filled with tons of mischief and over-the-top cartoon violence, this one-of-a-kind action game is hours of fun for gamers of all levels.”
— Naughty Bear Box Art
My first encounter with Naughty Bear was back in the Xbox 360 days, an impulsive gift retrieved by my mother on her way home from work. She thought it would be right up my alley at the time: a cute animal-based title with an added layer of mischief.
She wasn’t wrong; I thoroughly enjoyed Naughty Bear, often combing through the various maps in far more detail than they warranted. I was the type of player to go around and tamper with every object before destroying it. Stages that should take only 5 minutes instead kept me invested for 30 minutes or more, simply exploring. For that reason, speedrun stages were the bane of young Plat Rat’s Naughty Bear experience.
That’s why when I saw a pre-owned PlayStation 3 copy of Naughty Bear on store shelves in 2020 I just knew I had to add it to my collection. I booted it up for a nostalgic romp, hoping for a brief yet enjoyable session to help lessen some of the historic negativity circulating around the world. It worked, but at what cost? At the time, I did not realize how much suffering would be required to earn all of Naughty Bear’s trophies in the years to come.
After all, the game only has 500 platinum trophy achievers and 200 players with 100% completion on PSN Profiles. That breaks out into a 0.84% and 0.34% completion rate respectively. How could such a cute game have such a low completion rate?
The Trophy Hunt
Naughty Bear is a simple game when you break it down. Including DLC, there are 10 chapters in total, each with a set of challenges to be completed. Each level has its own goal to keep in mind, but in general, your aim is to be Naughty to earn as many points as you can before returning home. There are several zones filled with bears for you to scare, maim, or kill. The different types of levels include:
- Opening Episode: Learn the story behind why Naughty wants revenge on the bears. Punish the offending bear and their friends!
- Killer: Kill every bear on the island without letting anyone escape
- Insanity: Drive every bear crazy
- Friendly: Don’t hit any of the bears
- Traps and object kills are the key
- Speedrun: Defeat important bears and return home within a time limit
- Invisible: Don’t get seen
- Some costumes let you stay hidden in plain sight
- Untouchable: Don’t take damage
- Your traps also hurt you!
- Top Hat: All the bears wear hats, are stronger, and tend to have better weapons. Score requirements for platinum cups are much more stringent.
Playing the game normally will likely net you a number of trophies. However, to unlock the coveted platinum trophy in Naughty Bear, you will need to do a lot more. Your trophy hunt will consist of mainly three objectives: earning platinum cups with high scores, performing specific tasks in the levels, and participating in the online multiplayer.
In addition to the above, Naughty Bear also added new content to the game later on. Episode 8: X-Bears was released as a free DLC pack that didn’t include any trophies. Episode 9: The Treasure of Bear Beard and Episode 10: The Horrible Vampiricorn were released as paid DLC, adding two new scenarios to the game with two additional trophy stacks.
It is worth noting that the additional content can make several base game trophies more difficult, such as the Full Wardrobe trophy that requires players to obtain all available costumes in the game. Since the DLC chapters add new outfits, these too must be collected in order to unlock the related trophy. On the other hand, the inclusion of the DLC also makes several other base game trophies much easier to complete.
One very important note for 100% completionists is that Naughty Bear and all of its DLC packs were delisted from the PlayStation Store and are no longer available for purchase digitally. The DLC is only accessible via the Gold Edition of the game where it is included on disc.
Play the Game
The first step on the journey to earning all of Naughty Bear’s trophies is to simply enjoy the game. Play through all the episodes and become acquainted with the various bears, map layouts, and the game’s mechanics. Your first few trophies will be the ones that are unlocked from simply completing each episode. There are 10 of these in total, 2 of which come from the DLC content.
Costumes
Now that you’ve learned a thing or two, you should now work on getting all the costumes. These are important as they are needed for later trophies and can make your life easier when going for platinum cups. They aren’t too difficult to get, and at most require earning gold cups in a few stages.
Once you’ve unlocked them all, you’ll earn the “Full Wardrobe” trophy. But you’re not quite done yet. Once you’ve got the full set, you should set out to complete 10 additional trophies related to using the various costumes in different ways. These can be completed in any episode that the required bear appears in. The so-called costume shenanigans are:
- Twin Fight: Kill Cop Gordon with the Cop Gordon Costume by the Revolver Ultra-Kill.
- Chain of Command: Kill Colonel Ketchup with the Captain Naughty Costume by the Oozy Ultra kill.
- Evil Resident in Bearcity: Kill 4 Cops in One Level with the Zombear Oodoo Costume by the Bone Ultra-Kill.
- When bears are scared, they will try to call for help or escape via boat or car. When they do this, a police officer bear arrives to the island to investigate. You need this to happen twice, in two different zones in order to accumulate a total of 4 cop bears on the island.
- Make sure that the bear that calls for help is a normal bear. Other types such as Ninja bears trigger different reinforcements.
- Probing New Technologies: Kill R0B0-PR1M3 with the Emperor Xoon Costume by the Raygun Ultra-Kill.
- Chi Vs Voodoo: Kill Oodoo with the Master Miyagi Costume by the Ninja-To Ultra-Kill.
- Assassin’s Assassination: Kill Miyagi with the E.L.I.T.E. Mahoney Costume by the Silenced Pistol Ultra-Kill.
- Noisy Vs Silent: Kill E.L.I.T.E. Mahoney with the R0B0-PR1M3 Costume by the Power-Fist Ultra-Kill.
- Vengeance: Destroy Emperor Xoon with the Naughticorn Costume by Hornification.
- (DLC) A Classic Reborn: In Episode 9, kill Master Miyagi with the Pirate Naughty costume by the Cutlass Ultra Kill.
- Take care that the Pirates and the Ninjas don’t start fighting each other. If the other bears defeat Master Miyagi before you do, you will have to try again.
- (DLC) Sun Immunity: In Episode 10, kill Sunbeam with the Vampiricorn costume by the vampire Claw Ultra Kill.
Ironic Kills
There are 9 trophies that can be unlocked by killing bears in humorous ways. You are unlikely to do them naturally, but having the benefit of prior knowledge means you can get them done quite easily. You can either wait for the required bear to interact with the item in question of their own volition, or you can tamper with the object to entice them before doing the intended context kill.
I’d recommend not performing any other Naughty behaviors as they can make the bears suspicious and may inadvertently make them refuse to interact with objects. The ironic kill trophies are:
- Party Thrasher!: In Episode 1, Punish Daddles with the Disco’s Turntable!
- Drowning Politics!: In Episode 2, Punish Chubby with the Disco’s Toilet!
- Watch THIS Cozy!: In Episode 3, Punish Cozy with the Cabin’s Telly!
- Keeping a cool head!: In Episode 4, Punish Nibbles with the Cabin’s Fridge!
- Trembles’ Energy Problem!: In Episode 5, Punish Trembles with the Cabin’s Power Box!
- Gear Head!: In Episode 6, Punish Fluffy with the Factory’s Conveyor Belt!
- Hot as the Sun!: In Episode 7, Punish Sunbeam with the Campfire!
- (DLC) Who’s laughing now?!: In Episode 9, Punish Giggles with the Disco’s Toy chest.
- (DLC) The secret ingredient, is love: In Episode 10, Punish Stardust with the Factory mixing machine.
Secret Missions
Like the ironic kills, the secret missions are unlikely to be completed naturally. These are specific objectives that must be completed in each episode, often asking you to go above and beyond the level’s requirements. They aren’t too difficult to do once you know what each one entails.
- Maximum Security: In Episode 1, get the Entire Police Force on the Island.
- You can get 2 police bears in each zone, so you need to get the bears to call twice in zone 1 and zone 2. In the end, you should have lured 4 police bears to the island.
- Don’t tamper with the phone lines. If the bears try to escape via car or boat, let them; this also leads to police bears arriving to the island.
- Harakiri: In Episode 2, get the 4 Ninja-Bears to Kill Themselves.
- Give Me Peace!: In Episode 3, Destroy Every Bird-cam of the Level.
- This is much easier if you use a costume with a gun equipped, like Colonel Ketchup.
- Death Race: In Episode 4, don’t let Zombears Kill other Bears! They’re Yours!
- Use a fast and strong bear like the Danger Bear. Leave the final zone ASAP after defeating the required bear so that the Zombears don’t have time to kill any other bears.
- Elite Chumps: In Episode 5, Kill Every B.E.A.R with an Object Kill.
- Rebellion: In Episode 6, get the R0B0-B34RS to Kill their Master, Fluffy.
- Wear the robot costume in order to fit in with the R0B0-B34RS. Do some Naughty behaviors outside of their line of sight in order to make them turn on the other bears.
- Disintegration: In Episode 7, Destroy Every Alien-Bear with the Raygun Ultra-Kill.
- (DLC) The treasure is on another island.: In Episode 9 or its Challenges, destroy all the treasure chests.
- Bring a costume with a gun to make this easier, as some treasure chests are out at sea and must be shot.
- (DLC) I thought you said “Steak”!: In Episode 10, destroy the Vampiricorn 3 times using the BBQ.
- This can be very annoying. I’d recommend being patient and not killing any bears or doing any Naughty behaviors. Try to wait for the Vampiricorn to interact with the red grill naturally, or tamper with it as he starts pathing near it. If another bear tries repairing it instead, let them; you can always tamper with it again afterwards and hope the Vampiricorn shows interest.
Challenges
The 5 non-Top Hat challenges each come with their own special trophy to be unlocked. These require you to play in a way that is not intended for the mode, and thus will likely not be unlocked via natural play. They are as follows:
- Truly Invisible!: Finish an Invisible Challenge Without Being Seen Once.
- Do the absolute bare minimum to move on in each zone. Be patient and wait for the bear you need to punish to be alone. The longer you spend farming points and doing other tasks, the more likely you are to be seen and fail.
- If you wear a costume with a gun, you can kill the required bear from the bushes with no risk of being caught. Simply fire away until he is defeated.
- Fistful of Rage!: Finish an Untouchable Challenge Without Using a Weapon.
- Do the absolute bare minimum to move on in each zone. The longer you spend farming points and doing other tasks, the more likely you are to take damage and fail.
- Killin’ with Style: Finish a Killer Challenge Without Killing with a Weapon.
- Merciful: Finish an Insane Challenge with Every Bear Still Alive.
- Trap-tacular!: In a Friendly Challenge, injure every Bear.
- Take care that the other bears don’t kill each other on accident. Don’t wear a costume that matches a faction in your intended level, like the Ninja costumes in Episode 2.
- Tight One!: Finish a Speedrun Challenge with 1 Second Left to the Timer.
- Play a speedrun level and take note of where the final zone is. Simply wait until the timer shows 1 second before returning to Naughty’s hut.
Platinum Cups
There are 4 different trophies that can be unlocked by earning high enough scores in levels to warrant a platinum cup award. These are:
- Shiny!: Got either 28 Bronze, 16 Silver, 8 Gold or 4 Platinum Naughty Cups.
- Throphilific!!: Got either 28 Silver, 16 Gold or 8 Platinum Naughty Cups.
- Oh My GOLD!!!: Got either 28 Gold or 16 Platinum Naughty Cups.
- Nutter!!!!!: Got 28 Platinum Naughty Cups.
If you don’t have the DLC episodes, the requirements for “Nutter!!!!!” are extreme. With 7 episodes in the game having 5 stages each, that means you would need to get platinum cups in 28/35 = 80% of all levels! The Top Hat stages are among the most difficult to earn platinum scores and are included in every single episode’s challenges, so if you choose to skip them, that leaves absolutely no room for error; you would need to earn platinum cups in every single non-Top Hat level.
The 3 DLC episodes add an additional 15 levels, some of which are fairly easy to earn platinum cups in. For that reason, having the Gold Edition and earning platinum cups in the DLC stages can ease your time accumulating the required 28 platinum cups.
I’d be remiss not to mention some tips in earning these platinum cups. My first recommendation comes in the form of a helpful costume: Colonel Ketchup. This bear can be unlocked fairly quickly, does not arouse suspicion among the bears, has decent stats, and comes equipped with a gun.
The firearm is useful for the stages that require defeating moving sub-items, such as the bird-cams in Episode 2. They also come packed with their own categories of scoring events like the bears hearing gunshots or seeing someone get shot. I often found it useful to break windows or objects with the gun to keep my combo up.
The end-game costume I’d recommend is Danger Bear. This outfit can be unlocked in the X-Bears free DLC and has several important characteristics. Unlike Colonel Ketchup, this bear has the maximum amount of health possible, which is especially important for Top Hat challenges and later stages where enemies are more powerful and sport shorter cooldowns. The Danger Bear also has a high level of speed, allowing you to move about the map much quicker. The accuracy stat is low, but in my experience it is a negligible difference.
One really great strategy that worked consistently for me involved setting up a trap near a group of bears. Once a bear sets it off, scare any would-be rescuers, melee a couple in the crowd, and destroy objects nearby with your gun. Eventually, you can scare the bear in the trap so that he becomes injured. Rinse and repeat with other groups of bears, throwing in a kill here or there with a different weapon every time. Use freeze power-ups when you have high combos. Many bears will go insane during this process, but I didn’t go out of my way to ensure it. In my experience, dragging things out too long to try to push stubborn bears over the edge led to lower scores overall as it gets more difficult to keep your multiplier up.
In general, the biggest tip I can give is not to do what I outlined in the “Why Naughty Bear?” section of the article. Do not play this game with the intention of methodically planning out all your moves in advance. You shouldn’t be spending a ton of time tampering with objects; just a couple here or there is fine. You really should be focusing on moving fast and purposefully to keep your multiplier up.
I also have a few more specific min-maxing tips for those that need an edge. You can cancel a Boo! with a melee attack to regain control of Naughty sooner. If bears are chasing you relentlessly, often attacking them briefly will be enough to send them packing. It can be helpful to scope out the stage and where all its items are at the start so you know where to go for healing, freezes, or sub-items. I also like to outright destroy the boat as it is often too out of the way to deal with once things start going. If bears get stuck inside buildings, you can fire a gun at them and often lure them outside again. There is a guard and dodge button, but keep your expectations low as they are extremely inconsistent.
Otherwise, I wouldn’t get too bogged down in trying to earn platinum cups too early. Try to do all the above line items first so that you can go in with everything unlocked and with some experience in the game.
Clean-Up
This stage represents anything that you may have missed up to this point. For example, it is very likely that you have encountered a Unibear already. These special bears have a random chance of appearing in any stage and can net you big points if you kill them. In fact, there is a trophy for doing so. The aptly named trophy “Unibear!” is unlocked when you kill or POP! a Unibear by making it go insane. If you’re having trouble getting this, they have a higher chance of spawning in Episode 10 stages.
There are also a few trophies in the DLC stacks that don’t belong to any other category. The trophy “Sucky 9” is a part of the Episode 9: The Treasure of Bear Beard DLC and can be unlocked by earning a measly 9 points in a level. It is quite easy to accomplish by setting and rearming a trap a few times. You can read about an easy method to do it here. The trophy “Don’t go out in sunlight dummy!” is a part of the Episode 10: The Horrible Vampiricorn stack. It’s unlocked by getting killed by Sunbeam while wearing the Vampiricorn costume.
Grinding Naughty Points
One of the last tasks left on the docket will be reaching high tiers of Naughty Points. There are 7 trophies in total that can be unlocked in this way, and they are described below:
- Millionaire Club: Scored a Total of 1,000,000 Naughty Points.
- Multi-Millionaire Club: Scored a Total of 10,000,000 Naughty Points.
- Freak Club: Scored a Total of 25,000,000 Naughty Points.
- Closet Monster Club: Scored a Total of 50,000,000 Naughty Points.
- Under-bed Creeper Club: Scored a Total of 75,000,000 Naughty Points.
- Naughty Club: Scored a Total of 100,000,000 Naughty Points.
- Naughtiest Naughty Club: Scored a Total of 250,000,000 Naughty Points.
If you are exceptionally skilled at the game, you might finish all other objectives before you’ve earned the last trophy in this set. If that’s the case, you will have to spend some time grinding for Naughty Points. I’d recommend playing the DLC stages as they provide ample opportunities to earn high amounts of points in a short time; Otherwise, episodes with respawning enemies (like Zombears and Alien bears) are ideal.
Personally, by the end of my trophy hunting in Naughty Bear, I had more than enough points and did not need to farm at all. I ended my playthrough with just over 285 million Naughty Points.
Multiplayer
For some, this might be the most annoying part of Naughty Bear’s trophies. Since the game is niche and almost 15 years old at this point, there is pretty much no way you can earn these trophies without some serious leg-work. The base game includes 2 multiplayer trophies that can be earned in a matter of minutes. The Episode 10 DLC includes 4 additional multiplayer trophies that will take a couple of hours to complete.
The requirements for these trophies are extremely lax, so there isn’t any reason to worry about being skilled enough to earn them. The larger problem at hand is getting enough players with the game and its DLC’s together to get it done. If you just want the base game’s trophies, all you need is 2 people in total; if you want the DLC trophies, you will need 4 players. If you’re new to online trophies like these, check out our article about online multiplayer boosting session etiquette to help you start off on the right foot.
The base game set of trophies includes two multiplayer achievements: “Leader of the Pack!” and “Gloriosity!” The former is earned simply by winning an online match, and the latter can be earned by winning an Assault match against another player without getting your statue destroyed. In a two-round match, you simply need to destroy the enemy’s statue, then wait two minutes during the defense phase, and voila! Switch roles for your boosting partner to do the same and you will both earn +2 trophies.
The DLC trophies are a bit more involved. Episode 10: The Horrible Vampiricorn introduced a variety of new game modes to the online multiplayer. Trophies were added for the following:
- Pact with the Devil!: Finish a 4 players Vampiricorn Match with all your lives.
- Dancing King!: Finish a 4 players Dancing King Match with more than a minute over your opponents.
- Big pile o’fluff!: Finish first in a 4 players Defluffication Match with a kill limit of 100.
- Too close!: Finish a 4 players Left 4 Ted Match by being the last survivor standing.
In general, I’d recommend setting the map to the Disco and meeting on the dance floor. Have the winning player wait there while all respawning players return as soon as they can. It can be helpful to bring a weapon or trap if it’s along the way. Ignore the briefcase traps; they don’t do damage and instead simply reverse your controls. Once the winning bear sees another bear is injured, they should try not to do Ultra Kills; they take more time than a basic melee attack kill does.
“Pact with the Devil!” can be earned in just a few minutes for all players. You just need to take turns letting each player defeat everyone else without losing a life themselves. You will need to do 4 Vampiricorn matches in order for all players to unlock this trophy.
“Big pile o’fluff!” will take a lot longer. In my boosting session, it took about an hour for everyone to earn it. You will need to do 4 Defluffication matches for every player to unlock this trophy. It is recommended for all non-winning players to equip the Legendary Badge of Incandescent Vulnerabilitivity pictured below, as it allows you to be defeated in just 1 hit. This can cut the amount of time needed for this stage significantly. Traps and weapons are helpful for dispatching players that do not have this badge more swiftly. The winning player can also equip the melee or range damage badges to help make things a bit quicker, too.
“Too close!” can be earned fairly quickly, although the match timer cannot be adjusted. Have the Zombear player defeat all players besides the winning bear, then wait the remaining time in the match. You will need 4 matches in the Left 4 Ted mode for every player to earn this trophy. Keep in mind that at some point the Zombear player will need to go into the menu to “Change Sides” so that they can earn the trophy too.
Lastly, the “Dancing King!” trophy can be earned very easily and quickly for all boosting members. Set the mode to 1 minute only and have everyone besides the boosting player go AFK. Once the winning player accumulates 1 minute dancing with the Unibear, they will have unlocked the associated trophy.
When all is said and done, all 4 players will have earned every multiplayer trophy in Naughty Bear. Plan for the entire process to take about 2-3 hours. This time can vary depending on how optimal each player is in their movement, how many players have the 1-HP badge, and whether your group experiences any crashes or network issues.
Bugs, Glitches, and Other Issues
Would I recommend hunting for Naughty Bear’s trophies on the PlayStation 3? The answer is almost certainly no. The game is marred with technical issues the likes of which surprised me on the first pass. The game that played quite well on the Xbox 360 many years ago was a sluggish mess on the PlayStation 3. Every single stage I played had severe frame drops that made it difficult to play the game at all, never mind at the level needed to earn its trophies. Not only that, but I lost count of how many times the game crashed in the middle of a stage. I lost several platinum cup worthy runs to freezing.
This problem extends to the online mode, too. In my 2 hour boosting session alone my party dropped connection mid-match 4 times. Thankfully, it wasn’t during the time-consuming Defluffication mode.
There have also been a number of reports from other players regarding buggy trophies; I personally read many online testimonials about how this, that, or the other trophy is bugged in its requirements. However, I experienced no such issues and had zero problems earning 100% of Naughty Bear’s trophies in 2024 through the Gold Edition of the game.
The biggest thing worth mentioning is that the various DLC additions are treated just the same as the base game levels in the trophy sets. If you need to earn all the costumes for a trophy, it includes the DLC ones; if you need to earn a gold cup in all Top Hat challenges, it includes the DLC ones; and so on. This isn’t a guarantee that you won’t experience buggy trophies, but rather that many of these concerns seem out-of-date or misinformed.
Additionally, if you earn platinum cups before earning gold cups in Episodes 9 or 10, you will need to re-enter one later on and officially earn a gold cup in order to unlock the “Giant pile of Gold” and “Gold Lust” trophies.
Conclusion
Total Defluffication! You’ve earned all the trophies in Naughty Bear. Although the game has its flaws, it is still a worthy title for those looking for unique and rare platinum trophies to add to their collection.
